Transportation of Products and People is Source of Pollution IELTS Essay Writing Task 2

The growing issue of pollution, mainly from the transportation of goods and people, raises the debate over whether the government or individuals should be responsible for solving it. In my view, both governments and individuals have vital roles to play in addressing this problem.

Those who support government intervention argue that pollution, being a large-scale challenge, demands broad and coordinated solutions that individuals alone cannot achieve. Governments can enforce strict emission regulations for vehicles, significantly influencing both corporate practices and personal habits. Moreover, state investment in eco-friendly public transportation can encourage a shift toward greener travel. For instance, similar measures in Sweden have successfully lowered transportation-related pollution, demonstrating the effectiveness of government action.

Conversely, others believe that individual efforts are crucial to solving the pollution problem. Personal transport choices have a major impact on pollution levels, and if more individuals opted for carpooling, cycling, or using public transit instead of private vehicles, pollution would decrease considerably. Additionally, public support for policies and innovations aimed at cutting transport emissions is vital. Embracing cleaner technologies, such as electric vehicles, and backing government initiatives for sustainable practices can contribute significantly to reducing pollution.

Although both viewpoints hold merit, I believe a combined effort is necessary. Governments can design the framework for change, but individual choices are equally important in ensuring its success. A cooperative effort between both sides is essential for effective pollution management.
