Excellent writing skills are thought to be superior to having great speaking skills. I personally beg to differ with this point of view, for I believe that both these attributes are central to an individual’s success in today’s world.

The ability to produce good pieces of writing is crucial in many aspects of people’s lives. One of them is of course education. Since writing makes up part of our literacy, the inability to write well means failure to convey precise meanings and low scores for assignments at school, making it even more difficult to further one’s education in colleges or universities. Apart from this, being unable to write decently may hinder a person’s career prospects. This is because many positions require employees to be able to take notes during staff meetings and comply with them, producing reports and composing contract agreements, all of which are tasks that demand excellent writing skills.

The possession of good speaking skills, meanwhile, plays as important a part as writing well today. We would not be able to imagine members of vital positions such as teaching, medicine and politics with disfluent, non-persuasive and unconvincing tone of speech. If it were the case, it would be impossible to acquire proper knowledge at schools, treat patients and maintain order and peace in the society. In other domains too, like management and marketing, excellent oratory skills are proven to be the key to boost sales, motivate employees and resolve conflicts. We cannot attach greater significance to one of the skills in question. As shown above, they both possess equal importance as far as a person’s success in any domain is concerned.
