These days, people prefer to send written messages than talking over a phone. This essay will argue that despite there being time wastage during sending text messages, the benefit of replying to messages as per suitable time far outweighs any drawbacks.
The major disadvantage of chatting with people via text messaging is that it tends to waste a lot of precious time. This is because individuals wait for the reply until the receivers read the message and revert to a message. This waiting period in-between sending and receiving a message squanders time. To illustrate, a recent study by Cambridge University found that people who converse via text messaging waste nearly 2 hours on a daily basis than who do not. The main merit of communicating via text messaging is that people can answer to a message as per their convenient time. This is especially beneficial to people who live and work in different time zones and they have to converse on a regular basis. This actually does not disturb the receiver as in case of a phone call and can reply as they feel comfortable. For example, I work as a freelancer, and most of my clients are from the US. I converse with them via sending an email and other methods of text messaging. This means that I can reply to their queries of each other as per convenience.
In conclusion, the advantage of replying at a comfortable time far outweighs the supposed disadvantage of wastage of time in a text conversation.

There is no doubt that text messages are more trendier now than the phone calls. The fast paced lifestyle is one of the main reasons for this development. Personally, I think that the drawbacks of texting outweigh the benefits.
First and foremost, the reason for the popularity of text messages is the changing culture. These days people lead fast paced lives and they don’t have much time for calls and prefer to work asynchronously. Text messages are more popular because they are less formal. You can do something else while texting. You can use very informal language. Also, the recipient can decide if they want to reply or not. Also, text messages are less aggressive. You just leave a message there, hoping someone will reply. If they answer, fine. If they don’t respond, that’s okay too. The call, on the other hand, is immediate. You must respond immediately. Also, text messages are more convenient when you want to hide your emotions. If you get angry and call, the listener can immediately understand it. There are two prominent drawbacks to this trend. Firstly, it is difficult to understand the tone of the sender through text messages and which sometimes leads to misunderstanding. To illustrate, there have been instances in our daily lives when we text and end up in a rift because of misconceptions that arise from texting. The personal connect that is best established only through calls is also missing when it comes to sending text messages. It has been proved that listening to the voice of loved ones generates a positive emotions which unfortunately cannot be felt while typing.
To conclude, communicating through written messages is now more popular than calling due to time constraints and a more self-centered culture. But this does more harm than good, as it leads to more misinterpretations and loss of personal relationships and intimacy.
