Describe a New Skill you Want to Learn
What it is
I have an inquisitive nature and I am always eager to learn new things. Learning new things not only enhances our knowledge but also helps us grow mentally. Scientific research has proven that learning new skills keeps our brain young by forming new neural connections.
I once read an article stating that learning a new language or a musical instrument is especially beneficial for intellectual well-being. Although I am not very interested in musical instruments, there is one foreign language that I would truly love to learn—Spanish.
How you want to learn it
Spanish may not be the most popular choice among Indian students—languages like French, German, or Mandarin usually top the list because of their career prospects. However, I developed a deep interest in Spanish for a personal reason. During my visit to the Andaman Islands, I learned that until 1957, Andaman was a Spanish colony.
The Spanish influence remains even today, especially in the form of local literature and institutions established by the Spanish government. When I heard the locals speak Spanish, I was instantly captivated by the language’s rhythm and beauty. It sounded so elegant-almost imperial.
Where you can learn it
To pursue my dream, I’ve already started looking for ways to learn Spanish. Luckily, I discovered a language school near my home that is well-known for its foreign language programs. I’m hopeful that I’ll find a competent Spanish instructor there. Besides that, I’ve subscribed to several YouTube channels that offer beginner-level Spanish lessons, which I follow regularly to familiarize myself with the basics.
And explain why you want to learn it
The reason I want to learn Spanish goes beyond just academic interest. I genuinely admire the way Spanish is spoken; its pronunciation and structure have a certain poetic charm. Moreover, I have an ulterior motive – I want to travel to the South American continent, where Spanish is the native language of most countries.
Being able to communicate in Spanish would make my journey far more immersive and enjoyable. So, for personal, intellectual, and travel-related reasons, Spanish is the next skill I am determined to learn.
