Climate has the Greatest Effect on People’s Way of Life IELTS Essay

It is believed by some that climate has the most significant impact on people’s lives, while others argue that economy is the most significant factor. I believe that a good economy enables people to disregard the effects of climate and thus economy is the overriding factor.

On the one hand, the main reason given by those who believe that climate has the greatest impact is that climate determines the variability and availability of natural resources people depend on like food, water, and energy. For example, deserts are scarcely populated because of the hot climate which leads to water scarcity. Climate influences how people live and what jobs they do. People’s lifestyle including what they eat, what clothes they wear, the type of houses they live in, all in some way or another depend upon the climate the region experiences. Similarly, ice fishing is the most common profession in cold frozen countries, while agriculture is the most common profession in warm and humid climates. ieltsxpress-logo ieltsxpress

On the other hand, those who believe that economy is the principal factor say that because economy frames the choices and decisions people make regarding work, leisure, consumption, and how much to save. For example, in rich and developed countries, people tend to spend more as the governments can provide social security in the form of pensions and free health care, while in poor countries people are more likely to save. Similarly, developed countries with good economies have a more educated workforce and thus their citizens secure better jobs, while people from poor developing countries are seen employed as labor. In the past, I believe climate had the major impact on life, but today the impact of climate can be limited by a good economy. The biggest evidence for this can be seen in the oil-rich middle eastern countries, who have established modern cities in the middle of deserts with the help of their rich economies. Their people today have the same facilities and luxuries as available in other developed countries, despite the region’s harsh climate. ieltsxpress-logo

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that although both climate and economy impact people’s way of life, the impact of the economy is certainly more.

IELTS Essay on Climate Change

The contemporary era is an era of globalization. Around the world, people are experiencing both subtle and severe effects of climate change.Slowly changing weather conditions, rising sea levels and other extreme weather events are devastating evidence of both a rapidly changing climate and the negative impact on the region’s economy.

To commence with, the impacts of climate change affect every nation on every continent, but not in the same way. People already burdened with poverty and oppression often suffer the harshest consequences, while they have less ability to cope. Their struggle to earn money, support their families and build a stable home is getting harder every day as the climate crisis continues. The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as hurricanes, wildfires and droughts threaten lives in these front-line communities, evicting people from their homes and jeopardizing food sources and livelihoods. All of these effects increase the likelihood of more conflict, hunger and poverty. Yet, those most at risk persist in spite of this, fighting to grow food, maximizing dwindling resources and facing recurring disasters. ieltsxpress-logo

However, global warming is negatively affecting the region’s economy. Climate change is a direct cause of soil degradation, which limits the amount of carbon the land can hold. Some studies show that today 400 million people live in areas affected by erosion, with the result that up to 30 percent of food is lost or lost. Meanwhile, climate change is limiting the availability and quality of drinking water and farming land. In many regions, crops that have flourished for centuries struggle to survive, making food security more precarious. Such impacts mainly fall on the poor and vulnerable. According to a new study, the global economy could lose ten percent of its total economic value by 2051 due to climate change. The study also warned that this figure could rise to eighteen percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by the middle of the century, if not taken into account. ielts xpress

To conclude, Climate change is the defining crisis of our time, and it is happening even faster than we feared. But we are not powerless in the face of this global threat. As the endless costs of climate change reach irreversible heights, it is time for decisive collective action.
